Case Study

Restoring a Damaged Production Mold
After years of continuous production, a critical feature on an existing mold was damaged, affecting normal use. Replacing the complete mold would have required significant time and investment, so the project focused on restoring the damaged area while preserving the original tool structure.
The mold was first captured through 3D scanning, followed by CAD reconstruction to rebuild the missing geometry. Metal additive repair was then used to restore the damaged feature, with final machining and polishing completed to ensure the required dimensional fit and surface finish.
The repaired section integrated precisely with the original mold, providing a more controlled alternative to conventional welding repair. This approach helped extend the service life of the tool while reducing potential downtime, lead time, and replacement cost.
